WiSMC2026 – 8th International Day of Women in Inclusive SMC Research
On October 22, WiSMC2026 – 8th International Day of Women in Inclusive SMC Research will take place. This online event is aimed at pre-university students aged 15 to 17 who are considering what to study after completing their secondary education. Our colleague Ana is behind the organization of this initiative, which seeks to bring engineering closer to younger generations and, especially, to show girls that there are no limits to the goals they can achieve.
This edition will feature two outstanding professionals: Celeste Navas, a graduate in Sound and Image Engineering, who will talk about women telecommunications engineers and their role in the world, and Flor Álvarez Taboada, a Forest Engineer, Forestry Engineer and PhD from the University of León, who will introduce students to the work of women forestry engineers and their importance in addressing current challenges.
The event will take place on October 22, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., in an online format. Registration is free and open to all schools and secondary education centres in Spain.
To participate, simply send an email to abp@uma.es including the name of the school or institution, postal address, city or town, number of students who will connect, and the students’ grade or year of study.
This is a great opportunity to inspire students, encourage engineering vocations, and demonstrate that engineering is not about gender, but about talent, curiosity, and passion.
