TIGRIS is a project that has enabled building a secure, integrated solution that combines the acquisition and management of information from different environments and areas, such as intelligent network, public lighting, intelligent metering and intelligent building devices. All these areas have been developed under a hierarchical architecture (integrated systems) in which a set of intelligent must coexist in order to interact with each other and also with external infrastructures, such as the Internet and cloud computing infrastructures (through the SaaS layer). In addition, TIGRIS has contemplated a development based on combined elements of renewable micro-generation and lighting.
NICS Lab’s work in this project involves low access management in a federated environment, in which a set of authentication and authorisation related mechanisms have been proposed to ensure secure interaction through the Cloud. For this purpose, different standards and recommendations have been considered (for example, IEC 62351 and NIST-7628 to address security in Smart Grid environments, as well as NIST-500-299 and NIST-500-292 to address security in the Cloud) in order to identify problems and extract security requirements, but also to protect a Smart Grid’s domain of confidentiality, such as substations.
