Conferences
Two conferences, one shared drive: pushing advances in artificial intelligence and computer vision to the next level.
IWINAC 2026 focuses on intelligent computation and human–machine interfaces, while MLCVI4 puts the spotlight on machine learning and applied computer vision.
📅 June 18–19, 2026
Both are organized by Enrique Domínguez from ITIS UMA and are held jointly in Marbella, the International Joint Conferences SOCO-CISIS-ICEUTE-HAIS. A double agenda to make sure you don’t miss anything happening in the field.

Engineering has a lot to say to astronomy — and the UMA wants to hear it.
In its thirteenth edition, the Technological Challenge presents a task that is as concrete as it is exciting: designing AI-based technological solutions to improve the observation of the night sky in cities with high levels of light pollution.
📅 Call for submissions open until May 4, 2026
The competition is open to both university and pre-university students, and it does not require fully developed prototypes, but rather solid, feasible, and well-argued ideas.
If you have curiosity, motivation, and a bit of boldness, you have until May 4 to apply.

Distributed AI systems pose unique challenges: how do models learn when they are spread across multiple nodes? How can they be optimized in heterogeneous and dynamic environments?
LODAS 2026 was created precisely to address these questions, bringing together researchers working at the intersection of machine learning and distributed optimization.
📅 June 9–12, 2026
This is the first edition of the workshop, organized by Jamal Toutouh, Gabriel Luque, and Diego Pedroza from ITIS UMA. It will be held in Valencia במסגרת the FLICS 2026 conference — a starting point that promises to become a key reference in the field.

Five editions in, QuantOpt remains one of the most relevant workshops for researchers working at the frontier of quantum optimization and evolutionary algorithms.
In 2026, the workshop will be held GECCO, the world’s leading conference in evolutionary computation.
📅 July 13–14, 2026
Zakaria Abdelmoiz Dahi and Francisco Chicano, from ITIS UMA, lead the organization alongside an international team of researchers. Two intensive days to discuss, share results, and shape the direction of a rapidly growing field.

What happens when quantum computing meets artificial intelligence?
That’s exactly what the special session QAI has been exploring since its beginnings, and in 2026 it reaches its fourth edition at the IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC 2026).
📅 June 21–26, 2026
Organized by Zakaria A. Dahi, Francisco Chicano, and Gabriel Luque — researchers from ITIS UMA and collaborating institutions.
The session explores how quantum paradigms can transform optimization, machine learning, and decision-making. If you work in any of these fields, this is your event.
