Scale2Connect is a project funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme. Its main objective is to strengthen innovation ecosystems across Europe, with a particular focus on deep technologies (deep tech). The project aims to bridge the gap between established innovation hubs and emerging ecosystems by enhancing the capabilities of higher education institutions, fostering collaboration between academia and industry, and supporting the growth of technology-based start-ups to promote balanced regional development.
This workshop focuses on how next-generation communication infrastructures are driving the deployment of deep technologies in both academia and industry. Centered on the Victoria Network at the University of Málaga, the session will explore the real-world impact of advanced connectivity through practical projects and solutions. It will highlight the potential of Media & XR (Extended Reality) applications in the creative industries, presented by NOKIA, as well as smart agriculture developments driven by the University of Málaga.
A new session of the COMO TÚ project took place at Maristas Nuestra Señora de la Victoria School. Delia Rico, Ph.D., and María del Mar Moreno Escaño led a morning of robotics and programming with students, using Sphero Mini robots to introduce programming concepts in a practical and engaging way.
The COMO TÚ project brings science and technology closer to schools across Málaga through more than 70 UMA researchers specialized in STEAM fields, aiming to highlight the role of women in science and inspire future generations.

ÁGORA Datalab launched the DATA DANCE Dissemination and Engagement Workshops, an initiative aimed at promoting the creation and adoption of Data Spaces in the Andalusian agri-food sector. The sessions, held across different provinces during the last quarter of 2025, brought together small groups of companies, public administrations, and agri-sector entities in a participatory digital innovation environment.
Each workshop was structured into four blocks: fundamentals of the data economy, working scenarios with Data Spaces, a participatory workshop based on the European Commission’s Data Innovation Toolkit methodology, and presentation of the Data Spaces Kit. Attendees were also introduced to EDAAn, the Andalusian Agri-Food Data Space.
As part of the Master’s Degree in Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (Continuing Education) at the University of Málaga, Unicaja held the session “From Classroom to Business: Keys to AI Adoption in the Business World”. The activity focused on analyzing current challenges, opportunities, and approaches to integrating AI into corporate environments.
The session was part of ongoing collaboration between the university and the business sector, strengthening the link between academic training and real-world application in companies.
On February 2, we welcomed researchers and students to our ITIS UMA facilities for a laboratory pre-trial of the Spanish pilot of the 6G-VERSUS project. The session, organized by Francisco Javier Rivas, brought together around 20 participants interested in water and smart agriculture use cases.
During the event, technical talks and live demonstrations were held on: energy profiling of the core network (Haoxin Sun), SDN implementation with P4 UPF (Rafael Manuel García Arévalo), communication and sensing integration (Pablo Herrera Díaz), multi-connectivity for drone control (Delia Rico, Ph.D.), and robotic arm integration (Francisco Luque Schempp).

The Ada Byron Building hosted two interactive workshops במסגרת the European Horizon project Scale2Connect. In the first workshop, titled “Do we really understand our ecosystem?”, the project and the results of the Málaga innovation ecosystem mapping were presented, with participation from companies and regional stakeholders who shared their activities and challenges.
In the afternoon, the second workshop — “What do we do about it and how?” — explored solutions and collaboration opportunities. The University of Málaga highlighted its research initiatives, available infrastructures, and collaboration pathways with industry, reinforcing the potential of university-business cooperation to generate real impact.
On March 19, the 6G-VERSUS project took part in a conference on sustainable management of subtropical fruit crops organized by ASAJA Málaga at the IHSM La Mayora experimental farm. Representatives from Nokia, CSIC, and the University of Málaga showcased how 6G technology can become a key ally in strengthening the agricultural sector’s resilience to water scarcity.
During the event, progress in the Spanish pilot of the project was presented, ranging from the teleoperation of agricultural vehicles through ultra-low latency communications to systems for monitoring the quality of reclaimed water used for irrigation. It was also a valuable opportunity for direct exchange with farmers and for ensuring that technological innovation responds to real needs in the agri-food sector.
We invite you to take part in an edit-a-thon to publish on Wikipedia articles about women in telecommunications, focusing on those from Málaga and Andalusia.
An edit-a-thon is an editing marathon where several people come together to create new content on Wikipedia, combating the gender gap and giving visibility to women who are absent from the free encyclopedia.
