6G-SANDBOX signs a Memorandum of Understanding with the European Space Agency to integrate satellites with 5G and 6G communications.

The MORSE Research Group of the Institute of Software Technology and Engineering collaborates in this project which aims to develop a large-scale experimental platform across the European Union for emerging 6G technologies.

On 6 June 2023, 6G-SANDBOX announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the European Space Agency to advance innovation used to integrate satellites with 5G-based terrestrial networks and future 6G technologies by connecting 6G-SANDBOX test beds.

This project, which was launched in January 2023, will provide an evolving experimental infrastructure for the duration of the SNS programme, in which companies and research institutions can test and validate their new technologies, including network automation, cybersecurity, digital twins and artificial intelligence (AI), as well as technologies that optimize energy consumption.

Our Director and Technical Manager of the project, Pedro Merino, has stated that “The 6G-SANDBOX project allows ITIS to continue research that began more than ten years ago in areas including software, protocols and advanced configurations for 4G and 5G, to create a joint 6G test bench”.
